Back to School at the Old Depot Museum

Children in Selma and Dallas County are back to school, and here is a typical classroom...from a long, long time ago! This is the Education Exhibit at the Old Depot Museum, and the room has desks just like the ones I had in high school! Now, I'm not THAT old, but yes, we had old-timey desks where your chair was the front of another student's desk! The desktops had ink wells too, but no ink. We had progressed to fountain pens by then. However, the ink wells made good chewing gum receptacles! The desks served their purpose, but I doubt anybody uses desks like this now.

I used to have a desk like this when I was a kid at school. I'm not that old, just the desk was. Great post.
Its too hot to be back to school! Our schools dont open untill September.

Those desks are similar to the those we had in our one-room country school. I like your story too.

I do. I have one that I use as a bedside table in my guest room.

Looks like these must have been the most popular desks in the world, I had one too at my school (and that was in the early 1970's).

Annie, I just had a feeling that you are the creative type! Bet it makes a great bedside table.

Jules, I didn't have a slate, but like Curly, I used desks like this in the 60s and early 70s.
