Bottle Tree

Ever seen a bottle tree? If you looked closely at Wednesday's Picket Fences post, you would have noticed a bottle tree in the yard. Bottle trees are said to ward off evil spirits, and the idea was brought to America along with the Africans who became slaves. Today's bottle trees, however, are simply ornamental. They are primarily associated with southern gardens.

I like this very much. Anything whimsical appeals to me. On a recent art crawl in Mazatlan, I saw one entire interior wall of cobalt blue bottles separating two rooms. Really quite appealing.

Fine folk art. My husband won't let me put one up in our yard but I think it's be a fun addition.

Reminds me of an art installation in a museum. Very evocative. Could have symbolism for some people.

A very colourful idea. I don't think it would work in england though. Too many people would be too tempted to pick the tree and throw them about.

Thanks for your continued visits & comments. More Dubai photos now being served.

Great photo! I have seen a few bottle trees, but not in awhile. I was told that you place a bottle on the tree for every 'sin' you commit, the bottles remind you not to do that again.
