Getting Ready for Guests

We're celebrating the letter G over at ABC Wednesday
as Selma hotels and motels GET ready for GUESTS
this weekend due to the annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee.

We hear that the vice president is coming, and if so,
then the national news media can't be far behind!

So, let's hope they don't GARBLE the truth about our town!
Back in 2000, when President Bill Clinton came for the 35th anniversary,
I read one article from an out-of-state writer who complained
that Selma's storefronts looked out of date...as if they
were from the previous century! Well, they ARE from the previous century,
and merchants worked hard back in the 1980s to remove
unattractive modern metal facades and return the buildings to their
 original, architecturally beautiful appearances.

I've eaten at several St. James Hotels in different states, and all of them have been good experiences. Must have good kharma for the GUESTS. GOOD choice of the day! Kate, ABC Team

Tanya, unfortunately most media people already have their minds made up about Selma before they ever get here. Thanks for your comment!

Why would people complain about a cute, old-timey city like Selma? That's just strange. Hope the bridge crossing goes well and you only get good press!!!

That's what I wondered too, Halcyon.

Classic looking hotel and cute idea for 'G'. I bet they sell Baby Ruth candy in their gift shop :). Selma looks interesting. I will be back!

No Baby Ruth candy that I know about, LOL!

Geez, those goofy goofball writers went gonzo on Selma.

Y'all should be proud of the St. James, goldarnit!

I love the old buildings. And that metal work is beautiful!

The balcony looks looks the the one on the Rankin Hotel building (which is no longer a hotel) in Columbus. Very attractive building.

Whoever said that about the storefronts being out of date is an idiot... I love to visit a city that isn't a cookie cutter mall! Lovely picture ....
