The Frame Shoppe, which moved several months ago from Water Avenue to Broad Street, continuously displays works by regional artists, sculptors, photographers and craftsmen. The business participates in a quarterly Art Walk, and of course, it frames things!
These stained-glass works of art hang in the window of The Frame Shoppe downtown.

Here are some of the pottery and pictures shown at last Friday's Art Walk at The Frame Shoppe. I love the colors and stripes on the vases, and some of the photography has been enhanced to look like paintings.
The Butterfly Calendar is here!
Selma's Spectacular Butterflies 2009 Calendar features the 12 butterfly sculptures of patron sponsors. Each represents a month. The cover and January 2010 photos also include the other three dozen butterflies.
The calendar and The Butterfly Project are sponsored by the Dallas County Arts Alliance, which was formed by more than a dozen arts organizations in Selma and Dallas County early this year.
The calendars are available for $15 each at The Frame Shoppe, which recently moved from Water Avenue to Broad Street near Butler-Truax Jewelers. Profit goes to the DCAA for future projects.

What a fashionably friendly cat...wearing a flower in her furr, wouldn't you say?
She's just one of the whimsical cats painted on the "Dog (Cats) & Butterfly" sculpture sponsored by The Frame Shoppe. It's a butterfly sculpture, of course, and you can see more on The Butterfly Project blog.
The artist is Laura Grossman, who owns the shop in Lafayette Park on Water Avenue.
Canvas art was among the many wares for sale at last year's Riverfront Market Day. This year's market activities are Saturday, Oct. 11. There will be music, food, arts, crafts, antique cars, pony rides, a strolling musician and much more! This section of Water Avenue is the entrance to Lafayette Park and leads to the St. James Hotel entrance, Bridge Tender's House and The Frame Shoppe.
Ahh...this is how summer should be...enjoying family amid butterflies and bubbles!
This pastel titled "A Father's Love" was painted by Nate Brown and was on display at The Frame Shoppe during the August 1 Art Walk in Selma.
This pretty fish is looking to swim her way into the hearts of art enthusiasts. Presidential candidate and SenatorJohn McCain traveled first by plane, then by bus and finally by ferry to see the Quilts of Gees Bend down in Wilcox County. But, I photographed this original at The Frame Shoppe on Selma's Historic Water Avenue.
The store, which is located right across from the St. James Hotel and Bridge Tender's House, not only frames your artwork but features regional arts and crafts for show and sale, including the renowned Gees Bend quilts.
The quilts are handmade by women of the rural, isolated community who generations ago developed geometric, folk-art patterns that they learned from their mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers. The quilts eventually were discovered by folks from outside the Black Belt and have been shown and marketed worldwide.
