Pretty Puffs

"Pretty Puffs," a colorful acrylic painted by Judith Kaiser, was among artwork

for sale at last year's Selma Art Guild Show during the Selma Pilgrimage.

The show is free to the public during Pilgrimage Weekend March 14-15.

Here's Princess... in acrylic. She was drawn by artist Sallie O'Brien is displayed at Selma Art Guild's Gallery, 508 Selma Ave. The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday for its juried Summer Show. Art Guild members say bring your lunch and eat at the gallery while seeing art from all across the Black Belt.

Selma is among the oldest cities in Alabama and has the largest contiguous historic district. It is known for its Civil War and Civil Rights history. The Battle of Selma was one of the last fought in the War Between the States, and the town was a center for the Voting Rights Movement in the 1960s. Today, with a population of about 20,000, Selma is the largest town in the western Black Belt region. The Black Belt, named for the color of its soil, stretches across Central Alabama from Mississippi to Georgia.
