Jesus and the Wedding Feast at Cana

Here is just part of this splendid stained-glass window

 in the parish hall of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

It is Tiffany artist Clara Weaver Parrish's depiction of JESUS

 at the wedding feast in Cana. Cana is where Jesus

 performed his first miracle by turning water into wine.

In the weeks prior to Easter, the church has Lenten lunches

 on Wednesdays at noon in Parker Hall where the window is placed.

Shadow Trio

A  trio of shadows stretch across the hardwood floor of Weaver Castle

 where new owners are renovating the 1868 Gothic mansion. 

The house where renowned Selma artist Clara Weaver Parrish grew up

 was featured on this weekend's Selma Pilgrimage.

The Weavers of Selma Exhibit

Ten works by the Weavers of Selma are on exhibition the Birmingham Museum of Art. This portrait, which was painted by Clara Weaver Parrish, is at Selma's Sturdivant Hall, but other paintings and sculptures by the Weavers can be seen at the Birmingham museum's American Gallery through October 31. Clara Parrish studied art in New York and later worked for Tiffany & Co., where she designed stained-glass windows. Her sister, Rose Pettus Weaver, became a sculptor and carved wood in the Beaux-Arts style, including a staircase at her home. A great niece, Rosalind Tarver Lipscomb of Huntsville, is also an accomplished painter.    

Selma's Churches, The Rose Window at St. Paul's

Some of the most beautiful stained-glass windows you will find anywhere are at Selma's St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The Rose Window is above the front door and features symbols of evangelists and the sacraments. Other windows in the church were designed by Clara Weaver Parrish, a member of the parish, and an artist for Tiffany Company of New York.

Reflections of Love and Peace

The courtyard at St. Paul's Episcopal Church welcomes parishioners with "Reflections of Love & Peace." This butterfly sculpture was painted by Sandy Greene and features a variety of Christian symbols and even the church on an outside wing. As you can tell, this butterfly has a stained-glass window appearance. St. Paul's is well known for its beautiful Tiffany stained-glass windows designed by Clara Weaver Parrish, who was an artist, a St. Paul's member and worked for Tiffany & Co. in New York.
