A Long Life

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life."
John 6:47 (King James Bible)

This tombstone inscription in Old Live Oak Cemetery declares that the deceased
was given a long life, even forever and ever. While 41 years doesn't seem
like a long earthly life today, babies who were born in the U.S. around 1864
only had an average life expectancy of 48 years. However, Jesus promises
that those who believe on Him can live with Him forever and ever.

EMS Honorees

Firefighters and Emergency Medical Services personnel who had attained at least 10 years service were honored during opening ceremonies of the Alabama Sports Festival last weekend.

The Selma EMS group included Robert Skelton, Jeff Simmers and Wayne Stewart, all employees of CARE Ambulance.

The ceremonies were held at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center and featured a parade of athletes and Olympic flame as athletes from all over the state opened the 27th annual state games.

Thanks to Elaine Stewart for contributing this photo.
