The Doctor's Office

This 1800's McKinnon-Riggs doctor's office in Heritage Village preserves
not only the building but medical equipment and furnishings.
It will be open during Selma's Historic Pilgrimage March 17-18.
The office was moved in 1981 from Pleasant Hill to property
owned by the Selma-Dallas County Historic Preservation Society
and is located near Sturdivant Hall.

The light in front was an original on the Edmund Pettus Bridge
and used from 1940 until about 1960.

City Daily Photo Theme Day (LOVING LIFE)

The tractor parade at the Orrville Tractor Show always attracts a crowd,
and this driver and the onlookers are loving it! The tractor show is held
in November, but I held this photo over for the "LOVING LIFE" Theme Day
at City Daily Photo blogs.

Waiting to Play

Riverfront Park has a new playground, but it wasn't quite ready
to open when I took my grandson there a couple weeks ago.
Next time he's in Selma, I promised we will go!

Blooming Early

Early blooming Japanese Magnolia coaxed this blog out of hibernation
into what appears to be a very early spring!
This photo was taken in mid-January!
Since starting Selma, Ala., Photo almost 10 years ago,
I have posted the first blooms of what we call "tulip trees."
The previous early date was Feb. 7, 2012, and here is a photo
of the blooms at the same house on Feb. 22, 2008.
In 2010, they did not appear until March!

Ready to Race

These three look ready to race their tractors
at the Orrville Tractor Show last Saturday.

The event brings tractor enthusiasts from Alabama and nearby states
and features lots of activities for children in addition
to antique tractors, cars and engines.

Handmade

Who wouldn't love a handmade doll or stuffed critter?

The ladies at By Jeanann not only make these adorable huggables
but clothes to fit American Girl dolls, purses, quilts
and most anything out of fabric scraps.

I found these at Lilly Beck Originals outdoor vendors sale
 that continues through today.

Carneal Cultural Center. The exhibition honors the 50th anniversary
of International Paper's Riverdale Mill near Selma.

The show continues every Friday and Saturday,

And the Drought Goes On

The colors, they are a'changin' early this year but not without a quick wilt!

As soon as the ginkgo leaves turn from green to gold, they crumple!
And that is no thanks to this extended heat and drought!
James Spann says the drought may break by mid-November,
and cooler air is on the way.

Lilies at Valley Grande Park

These delicate white lilies were still blooming at Valley Grande Park
a couple of weeks ago. They resemble the famous Cahaba River lilies
in Bibb County. Does anyone know what type of lily these are?
