Stretching the Web

It's the time of year when we wake up to find spider webs stretched from one end of the shrubbery to the other!

The Web

Here's the Web, Selma style...not the World Wide Web, but a bunch of spider webs across the porch and bushes (click to enlarge photo) and a web of Spanish Moss across the entire fence.

What fun it must have been for trick or treaters to have opened the gate of this fence and made their way to the porch for candy!

Caught (Camera Critters)

It's that time of year again when garden spiders are weaving webs and catching prey. This spider is securing a beetle. We counted six such spiders and webs in our hydrangea bush.
More critters are just a click away!

Caught!

This garden spider clinches a grasshopper that she caught in her web outside my kitchen window. I recently posted another garden spider that built a web outside the front door. I think this one chose the window, because insects are attracted to the light in our kitchen at night. Her web covers the entire exterior of the window. We just tell everybody that this is our "virtual" Halloween decoration! Anyway, we have enjoyed watching her patch and expand her web, although devouring other bugs is not especially appealing. (I took this photo through the kitchen window.)

Welcome to My House!

"Welcome to my house!" said the spider to its prey, or to anyone who might have knocked on my front door yesterday. This is just one of three spiders and their webs that I found outside, and it had attached its web to the front door. I didn't disturb it either, despite clipping the hollies nearby.
