PAINTINGS by Joanna Nichols

Joanna Nichols' love of nature sparkles through her PAINTINGS of flowers,
fruit, landscapes and animals.  A Selma artist since the turn of the century,
she is Artist of the Month at the Selma Art Guild where her works
will be on display through this weekend. Nichols began drawing and painting
as a young girl in Northumberland, England, and she later married
and moved to the U.S. where she spent more than two decades
as an art student and art guild leader in Stamford, Conn.
In Selma, she says she has been intrigued by the old buildings,
vehicles and "remnants of the past"
which she enjoys capturing on canvas.

Signs, Signs, Take a Break

Selma artist Clayton Cogle's "Take a Break"  painting takes us back to the early 1900s
when Coca-Cola Bottling was located in a building near Water Avenue
and Lauderdale Street. The mural on the side of the building was refurbished,
and you can view it HERE

Cogle's colorful painting is on display
at the Alabama Artists: Roots and Wings Art Exhibition
and Sale at Carneal ArtsRevive. The show ends Saturday.

Calling Alabama Artists

Here are a few pieces of art shown at last year's Arts Revive juried exhibition. Now, the call is out for Alabama artists to participate in the seventh annual show.

The show begins March 13 and ends March 22, coinciding with Spring Pilgrimage the second weekend. To enter, artists, sculptors and photographers have until February 18. Selections for the show will be made by a committee from photo and CD entries. The judge, Jessica Ingram, teaches at New York University Tisch School of the Arts.
