The World-Record Stokes Alligator

What is 15 feet, nine inches long, weighs 1,011.5 pounds

 and used to reside in the Alabama River?

It's Wilcox County's own world-record Stokes Alligator, caught last August 

by Mandy Stokes and her team from Thomaston. The team included 

her husband, brother-in-law and his two teens. The gator is on display

 at the Central Alabama Farmers Co-op in Selma through July.

Two years ago, the co-op hosted the state-record Fancher Alligator, 

also caught in Wilcox County, which you can see HERE.

Who KNEW such huge reptiles swam in our river?

 Until gator season began last year, I sure didn't!

The Fancher Gator, Alabama's state record at 14 feet, 2 inches and 838 pounds,

 is attracting attention while on display at the Central Alabama Farmers Co-op

 in Selma. The alligator was caught in the Alabama River in Wilcox County

 last August by The Fancher Gator Team. Wildlife Images Taxidermy Studio 

of Autaugaville mounted the reptile in a natural pose, snatching a river otter. 

And now, it's about time for gator season to begin again!

I say, "Go get 'em!"

Beware of Gators!

Beware of gators!

Not only have alligators taken up residence along the Alabama River, but Gators from Florida are streaming into our state today by car, truck, bus and van. I saw vehicles on U.S. Highway 80  yesterday, and they were flying Florida Gator pennants and likely headed for Tuscaloosa. The No. 7 Florida Gators college football team plays the No. 1 University of Alabama Crimson Tide in a Southeastern Conference matchup tonight at 7 pm CST.
