It's opening night for the Lions' Club Central Alabama Fair!The fairgrounds open shortly after 5 p.m. at the old armory on Dallas Avenue. There will be the usual midway rides, popcorn and cotton candy, and don't forget to eat the ever popular Kozy Dawgs. You know that your name will be called until you head over to the Civitan booth!
My favorite part of the fair is the exhibits. Local talent really shines through the art, photography, canning, cakes, cookies and crafts.
For entertainment, tonight the Back in Time music group from the Talladega School for the Blind will perform at the pavilion at 6:30 p.m.

Every where I go I see the signs of carnivals and fairs. It's that time of year!
I tried to meet up with Virginia in Birmingham yesterday but it was not to be. I was thinking afterwards that all us Southern bloggers should convene somewhere like Birmingham and have a meet up. I think it would be so much fun.

Virginia, these cakes aren't for sale. They're judged, and the winners get ribbons and money! I did buy a sour cream pound cake at the flea market last week, but it is gone now.
Tanya, You got it! Kozy Dawgs are corn dogs. The Civitan Club has that booth every year and raises money toward Jr. Miss and other projects.
PJ, we'll all have to figure out when we can get together for a "Southern Bloggers Convention!"

Lucky YOU! I missed my local fair last weekend because I had so many other obligations. Seeing your post makes me want to kick myself for not planning my time better. ;-)

Andrew, I guess that does get confusing, huh? Jim is near Dallas, Texas, and I am in Selma, Dallas County, Alabama. Dallas Avenue is one of the main roads in Selma. :)BTW, U.S. Highway 80 runs straight through both Selma, Alabama and Terrell, Texas!
I was planning on going to the state fair tonight, but it's raining now. I guess we'll wait and see.
