Jacob's Ladder

Our Jacob's Ladder bulbs are blooming, and I have always loved their magenta blooms. I call them Jacob's Ladder, because that is what we call them around here. When I checked the Internet images, there was nothing pictured that looked anything like these. We are sure these are some type of gladiola. So if anybody else has an idea, let me know!

I would call them beautiful.
Love the color.

These aren't exactly "green shoots" but the slender green leaves against the magenta blossoms are quite dramatic.

A gorgeous photo, what ever they are called. Yes, very different from the jacobs ladder that grows in my region.

Great photo. Jacob's Ladder has a completely different meaning here. It's an annual music festival which is actually coming up soon. For a minute (when I saw your heading) I thought that the Jacob's Ladder Festival was in Alabama too!! LOL

Wow those colors are vivid. Almost match the railroad museum picture. Nice photographs.

Thank you all (y'all) for visiting! Spring is a good time to start a photo blog -- so many things to shoot.

I think what you have is also known as a Byzatine gladiolus. Check this site: http://www.oldhousegardens.com/bigFlwr.asp?Cat=byzGlad

Anonymous, thank you! The Byzantine gladiolus has to be the same as what we have been calling Jacob's Ladder. I see they sell for $12.50 each some places. Mine have spread like wildfire, so maybe I need to go into business!
