Honoring our Veterans

Selma and Dallas County veterans are honored with a series of monuments at Memorial Stadium. The center monument (with the gas flame) honors the World War I and World War II veterans who gave their lives. Nearby are the Vietnam and Korea memorials. Another one honors Commander Howard Gilmore who commanded the Growler submarine in WWII. The Growler sunk a Japanese freighter and damaged another. Later, Gilmore died in a 1943 attack. Selma also honors veterans with ceremonies here.

Very moving and respectful photograph.

Thanks for visiting my NorthBayPhoto blog. I know that they use tire chains in the USA, but it is illegal in Ontario to use tire chains on the roads. We usually buy winter tires and slow down are speed (or we're supposed to slow down!!)

I think the south really holds dear the idea of memorializing and honoring its soldiers, more so than other parts of the country. Do you think so?

Thank you all for visiting.
Annie, I never really thought about the South being more mindful of its veterans than other parts of the country, but that may be true. I know our state has a history of high percentage in military service and support.

Is your Veterans Day on or around 11th. November, much like our Remembrance Sunday?
