Handwoven Baskets by Betty

Notice anything unusual about this basket?

Look into the very center. There is a deer antler woven in.

Betty Bain of Selma is a master at her trade and has some of the most beautiful and unique baskets that I have seen anywhere. She displayed her craft at Artisans' Day recently.

Very interesting. I hardly ever see good hand woven baskets anymore. Did the deer antler have a purpose other than decoration?

Hi Texican, Now that's a good question! Looked like just decoration to me!

I have the same question as The Texican. Does the antler serve a purpose? Maybe as a spine or something to strengthen the bag?
