Convenient Gourmet

What's for dinner?
If you didn't plan anything, complete meals are no problem in a matter of minutes if you stop by Mark's Mart on your way home. The West Selma convenience store specializes in convenient gourmet foods and invented the popular chicken swirl. That's a quick grill item made of chicken breast meat, stuffed with beef and wrapped in bacon. Perhaps you prefer beef or chicken kabobs, steak burgers or pre-seasoned steaks. Then there's Cajun pork chops along with stuffed mushrooms. Get some twice-baked potatoes, homemade cakes or pies and homemade rolls, and you've got a meal! Choose from hundreds of brands of wine. Pick up a batch of cheese straws. Try Aunt Mae's homestyle cookies or get a jar of Marion Junction honey. Oh yes, you can buy sacks of charcoal, soft drinks and hot dog buns as well!

If I understand well, it's not for vegetarian people :-)) I don't like meat very much but I said yum yum while reading your post :-))

All of this is made to go? Count me in. Sounds great.

Hi Marie and Jim.
They have ready-to-eat salads and dips, too. The meats have to be grilled, but the other stuff is ready to eat.

You're making me hungry! No fair, I'm on a diet!

What fun to get such interesting--high choleterol foods ready to go. YUM!

Hey, yesterday it was 19 and today 37--quite a thaw for us.

Places that offer meats, salads and dinners almost prepared are becoming more and more evident all over the place. We have several here in Little Rock.

That's really an interesting place! Yum!

Ohhh, yummy food and a good pic too! I really like the red and the way it contrasts with the white trim and blue sky.

What a great description of Mark's you've given us--your post title is perfect.

This sounds like the perfect stop for me after a long day at work...we need one of those here! The foods sounded very yummy, too.

Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful response on my other blog. I appreciate the encouragment. I found a good beginner class in Continuing Ed at our local university, and I'm too late for this session, but I am going to try for the next one. I'm really energized by all of this. :)

Not the place to go if you're on a diet. Whatever happened to home cooked food?

Janet said...

Thanks for all your comments!
I should say they have salads if you are dieting...and whatever happened to home cooking? I suppose it went to the same place as home-raised pigeons for supper! (See The Pigeon Cote. Hard to believe that people raised and ate pigeons.)
I won a Mark's Mart gift certificate before Valentine's one year. So I picked out chicken swirls, twice-baked potatoes and a variety of cheesecake slices. It was delicious.

I like the red color of the building. Sounds good on the meal.

It's probably expensive but... what a saver at times, I'll bet. :-)

Coming from someone who lives in NC now, but reigns from Selma, AL....I have 3 words for Mark's Mart....YUM, YUM, YUM
When we visit a few times a year, they stock us up w/all our favorites, expecially the Filets (the best ever), pack them w/ice blocks and into the cooler they go. They also ship by Airmail when we get desperate through the winter!! Phone # is 334-872-3003 DON"T FORGET the Stuffed Mushrooms and Peppers....Oh My MY. A class act in Selma, AL...gotta love em'. The wine selection is also fantastic!

Yikes, it sounds as though they put more meat in a single meal than I eat in a typical week!

Annulla,
This is a gourmet food place. They also have wonderful homemade local breads, salads, dips, fresh ripe tomatoes and the like. There's something for everyone. The selection of meats is outstanding, BUT if you're not a meat eater, there are tons of other wonderful options.

Hi Suey! Nice to have you visit. I believe you have eaten more of their products than me!
Annulla, As far as meat goes, it's really very lean, and the bacon wrapping just gives it a good flavor. You don't have to eat the bacon. Like Suey said, Mark's Mart ships all over the U.S. and offers gift baskets as well. The Mr. Ellis seasoning they sell is used on their steak filets and is delicious.

Hello Rambling Round! Good of you to post one to me. I served my sister who resides in Houston Mark's Mart a few years ago and she loves the place. She's actually the one who sent me the link to the picture on this blog. Funny! So thought I'd lend some of my personal comments on Mark's Mart. We just grilled our last Steakburgers we brought back in November...so will have to give them a call and get some supplies sent soon since we won't visit again until April. Good to hear from you! Take care.
