 on Sunday evening to jog around town.

Clinging and Climbing

Vines seem to love Selma's old buildings! Instead of window washers, I guess we need a few good vine pullers. Meanwhile, I like the arches above the windows.

Washington Street Supermarket

They don't make supermarkets like this anymore! The Washington Street Supermarket has been downtown since long before I moved to Selma, and it remains a popular place to shop for groceries and perhaps rest on the bench and have a soft drink.

Pilgrimage Preparations

The 1839 Voeglin-Barker-Smitherman House is a work-in-progress, but most of the exterior work will be finished by Friday! Afraid that this downtown property might eventually become a parking lot, a former owner requested that this house not be torn down, and it still stands. New owners Steve and Erika Smitherman are restoring it and will welcome Pilgrimage visitors this weekend.

Four more shopping days til Christmas!

Shopping for the holidays this year has been either warm and rainy (above) or cold and windy (on which days I stayed home).

City Walk

"Get healthy, Dallas County, take the City Walk."

Vaughan Community Health Services promotes healthy lifestyles, and here is one of their latest ideas. Take a walk around the municipal complex. One block is a third of a mile. So get walking!

Blue and Gray

When the sun shines, January turns blue and gray on the Alabama River. I took this photo on the coldest morning in several years when the temperature dipped to the low teens.

In the foreground, Spanish Moss billows like a cape. In the background, you can see the railroad bridge.

Carter's Fall Display

Continuing with Selma's downtown autumn decorations, we arrive at Carter Drug Co. and its cute, colorful window boxes. Click on the photo for a larger version and notice the pumpkin stands near the entrance.

Future Home of Arts Revive

An old auto service building at the foot of Water Avenue is undergoing a transformation into an art center.

Perched on the bank of the Alabama River, the building will some day serve as a place for workshops and galleries with outdoor areas for inspirational views.
