Who wouldn't love a big white stocking or a whimsical reindeer bag for Christmas? The Holiday House crafts sale ends this weekend at the Performing Arts Center.

Whimsical Whirls

Glistening glasses and practical platters are among the many arts and crafts offered for sale at Holiday House. Created by Laura Morris, owner of Whimsical Whirl, these bejeweled serving pieces would surely delight someone on your gift list!

Holiday House opened Monday at the Performing Arts Center and continues for two weeks. Proceeds benefit the Old Depot Museum, and this is its biggest fundraiser of the year.

Skywatch Friday, Wispy Blue

The skies were wispy blue above Lauderdale Street one day this week, although rain soon returned. At left is the performing arts centre and other businesses as you walk from Selma Avenue toward Alabama Avenue.

Skywatch Friday (Looking Up for the Weekend)

Skies are cloudy at the moment and will usher in heavy rain today for a weekend that is expected to bring blue skies and cooler weather. Can you remember what it's like to feel temps in the 80s with a cooling northwest breeze?

This Skywatch photo was taken recently along Lauderdale Street. You are walking beside the Performing Arts Centre toward St. Paul's Episcopal Church on a typical summer day full of fluffy clouds above.

Working with Acrylics

Paint-splattered jeans, a western hat and flip flops make the artist!

Fairhope artist and instructor Bill Harrison finished a three-day whirlwind workshop at Selma's Performing Arts Centre Thursday.

"...Just have the courage to jump right in and slam it down!" he told participants.

They completed four acrylic paintings and learned numerous techniques. Now don't you just love the rooster? It reminds me of Country French decor, although it could be Lower Alabama Rurality!

Anyway, Harrison is known for painting colorful landscapes depicting life on the Gulf Coast and rich still lifes. He told his Selma students that "I can give you tools; I can't give you heart. Only courage can give you heart."

Bright and Beautiful

All things at Holiday House are bright and beautiful!
This Christmas arts and crafts sale is an annual two-week event at the Performing Arts Centre, and this is the last week. While you're browsing and stocking up on homemade ornaments and jams and jewelry, don't forget the daily bake sale. Each day, a different organization brings cakes, pies, cookies and candy.

The Glunk Who Got Thunk

Okay, all you Dr. Seuss fans, here's the winning color art in the Dr. Seuss Art Contest.

The artist is 11-year-old John Hartman of Valley Grande Elementary, and his creation can be seen along with dozens of other Dr. Seuss art at the Performing Arts Centre, site of this weekend's "Seussical the Musical."

Pot 'O Pine Cone

This lovely statue graces the courtyard behind the Performing Arts Center, but someone (not me!) decided to add a pine cone to the bowl.
