Out with the Old

The new year begins with construction of the new Selma High School, which will stand in front of this 1939 structure. The school board's website states that the ornate entrance will be partially preserved and used as the entrance to the new library. Many Selmians remember SHS as the former Parrish High.

I'll bet there are many memories in this old building. Glad that the entrance will remain as a reminder of the past, esp for those who are nostalgic about the time they spent in the school.

If only walls could talk! That place has a lot of history and interesting stories!

I hate the new high schools they are building they all look the same. I love the ones with their own style like this one. At least they are keeping part of it.

It will make a handsome facade! It's wonderful that it's being incorporated into the new design.

wow, that is a beautiful school...i would prefer attending there rather than a new building. when we lived in ga, my kids elem school was about a hundred years old and i loved it...they built a new school and of course the kids loved the new school....i love old with all it's history though. they were trying to decide what to do with the old building, tear it down or use it for storage...i sure hope it's still standing...good to know they are going to use the entrance from this great old building! and you know what's funny, construction from back then was so great, new construction is so cheap that i doubt any of these new buildings will still be around in a hundred years.

That's a little sad. This is such a nice looking old building. Hope the new one is even better.

I hope they have good architects to make creative use of the best of this elder gentleman.
