Peach Pickin' Time

It's peach pickin' time in Central Alabama, and the aroma of these ripe fruits left me no choice but to buy a couple of cartons at the local Farmers' Market.

I shared a few with friends for a peach and blueberry fruit bowl, and the rest will go into homemade ice cream. I'll even share the family recipe!

Homemade Peach Ice Cream

6-8 ripe peaches
3 cups sweet milk
2 eggs, well beaten
1 large can evaporated milk
3 cups sugar (I use a little less.)
1 12 ounce can apricot nectar

Combine peaches with small amount of milk in blender until well blended. Combine remaining ingredients and pour into a one-gallon freezer. Add peach mixture. Mix. Freeze according to directions. Yield: 15-20 servings

As soon as I saw your photograph, my salivary glands automatically started working! These are beautiful, and how generous of you to share your recipe. I have been gobbling up blueberries but now I'll have to go to the market (unfortunately, not like your peach market) to get some peaches to mix with my blue berries. I love to use creme fraiche with mine, tho. Umm!!

They look like yummy. Thanks for the recipe. Such a refreshment is welcome in the hot city of Stuttgart.

I just had home made peach cobbler last night. Peaches fresh from Ham Orchards.

Kate, that sounds like a delicious combination!

Lewi14, thanks for visiting all the way from Germany!

Jim, So, do you have a good peach cobbler recipe? I know Texas is known for its peaches too! Our best peaches generally are grown in Chilton County, just north of our county, and they are having a peach festival this weekend.

I live in Wayne PA (suburb of Philadelphia and our main street reminds me a little of Broad Street) but I was born in Selma and I love the Selma Photo Blog and so much enjoy looking at all the old familiar pictures I recognize from growing up in Selma.

My husband loves peaches and my mother always made him peach cobbler when she would come to visit but of course the peaches from New Jersey aren't near as good as the ones in your photo. I am definitely going to try the peach ice cream. Sure wish I had some of those peaches in the photo.

Thanks for all the great pictures I love looking at them each day I come to work and turn on my computer.

PA Friend, Thank you so much for your kind comments! Wish I could send you some peaches!

BJ Roan, when you make the ice cream, the 3 cups of sugar makes it really sweet. I use a fourth to a half cup less, but some of the family like their ice cream with the full three cups. To me, the peaches and apricot nectar give it plenty of sweet flavor.

I can smell the peaches all the way over here in PC. Might have to make some of that peach ice cream.

YUM!!! I have yet to be successful in buying GOOD peaches. I've bought plenty of bad ones this year, though. (sigh)
