 now that this new sign is in place.

The Water Avenue restaurant is located in one of the old riverbank buildings

 along Water Avenue and next to Lafayette Park.

So what's the price of cotton...100 years or so ago?

You won't find the answer on this sign, but you will find this pre-computer age market 

board on the wall inside Side Porch Sandwiches. The board was discovered 

when the riverside building was renovated but may have been

 used in another Water Avenue building.

Side Porch Sandwiches

It's Alabama Restaurant Week, and in Selma, Side Porch Sandwiches 

is one of the newest places to eat. It opened in an historic riverfront building

 last spring. Years ago, this building was known as the Riverfront Mini Mall

 and Old Towne Sandwiches. Pictured is the Water Avenue entrance

 but the main dining room  is in a porch addition on the side of the building.

Catfish Tacos

The Fourth of July barbecue is 'bout gone, and now I'm looking 

for something different...like catfish tacos and sweet potato fries

 down at Side Porch Sandwiches on Water Avenue. 

Since this is the Year of Alabama Food, I'm posting this tasty dish

 that is made with Alabama farm-raised catfish

  (grown right here in the Black Belt)
