Blooming Early

Early blooming Japanese Magnolia coaxed this blog out of hibernation
into what appears to be a very early spring!
This photo was taken in mid-January!
Since starting Selma, Ala., Photo almost 10 years ago,
I have posted the first blooms of what we call "tulip trees."
The previous early date was Feb. 7, 2012, and here is a photo
of the blooms at the same house on Feb. 22, 2008.
In 2010, they did not appear until March!

Tucked Away

April just keeps on blooming, and I found these wildflowers tucked away beneath some shrubbery and a shade tree in the Old Town Historic District.

Gathering Eggs!

Children who live in the Old Town neighborhood enjoyed "gathering eggs" last Saturday. The annual Easter Egg Hunt is held at Heritage Village, a park that features 19th Century structures amid a large grassy area. The park is located across from Sturdivant Hall Museum.

Hmmm...in the foreground I see something pink!
In the background, I see a refreshment table, and in between is a happy hunter!

Thanks to Jacque Johnson for sending this photograph.

Spring at Byrd School

Byrd Elementary School in Selma's Old Town Historic District is noted for its beautiful grounds. Azaleas, pear and dogwood really dress it up in the Spring!

In just another month, the school will celebrate its 90th birthday!

The Cottage Life

This charming Victorian cottage in Old Town caught my eye immediately. I can just picture someone sitting in those white rockers and having a lemonade as they watch the neighbors go by. From the bay window to the gingerbread trim, the banisters and color choices, I can't think of a thing that I would want different. The house was built in 1873 by George L. Waller.

Campaigning in Ward 3

Selma is just a couple weeks away from municipal elections. This picket fence in Old Town Historic District's Ward 3 has made a perfect background for these political signs.

Happy Fall, Y'all!

Autumn is still alive and well at this little Victorian cottage in Selma's Old Town district. The display of yellow mums and pumpkins just seem to say, "Happy Fall, Y'all!"
