Church Barbecue

Tomorrow is Independence Day in the USA, but festivities have been going on all weekend. Following the annual God and Country service today at Elkdale Baptist Church,

the congregation enjoyed a barbecue dinner in the newly renovated fellowship hall. 

Flowers for the Cross

A young boy places a flower on the cross in front of Elkdale Baptist Church on Easter Sunday. The decorated cross has become a tradition at Elkdale and other churches in the area, signifying the joy for believers in Christ's sacrifice and resurrection.

Little Bo Peep Found Her Sheep

Little Bo Peep was surprised to find a sheep at Elkdale Baptist's Fall Festival last weekend!

As she was sharing the Bible story about the lost sheep, this little lamb arrived, so of course, I got their picture together!

Trunk or Treat

Spiderman and a little pirate were among the children who came to Elkdale Baptist Church for a "Trunk or Treat" event on Saturday. Church members decorate their vehicle trunks and give out candy that has been donated by the congregation. Participants were also treated to party inflatable games and food. Fun at the Fall Festival

Trick or treating in neighborhoods seems to be losing popularity on Halloween as churches sponsor fall festivals and Trunk or Treats.

Elkdale Baptist Church hosted its annual festival and treat time Saturday, and children were greeted by costumed adults before they made the rounds of decorated vehicle trunks filled with candy.

Here, Elkdale's children's director clowns around with one of the "celebrity" guests.

Changing Landscape

The landscape is changing on the Highway 80 side of Elkdale Baptist Church. The pine trees came down last week to make way for more parking.

High Tea and High Attendance

Sunday was extraordinary...from High Tea at Sturdivant Hall (top photo) to high attendance at Elkdale Baptist Church (bottom photo) last night. Teapots and art adorn a table for High Tea, and attendees enjoyed teas of different flavors, pastries, Tiffany tablescapes and an art auction. The fun and fundraiser were sponsored by Sturdivant Hall Museum and the Selma Art Guild. Thanks to Jacque Johnson for sending me the photo!

The second event was held at my church, Elkdale Baptist, where 821 people attended a special service that featured Allan McConnell, a Christian missionary from Mountain Brook, Ala. Once the sanctuary filled, attendees watched the service on big screens in two other auditoriums at the church. The event was also historic, because in a new addition to its website, The Selma Times-Journal newspaper streamed the service live via the Internet, and it was broadcast by local FM radio station WDXX 100.1. There were some technical glitches that included maxed-out traffic on the website broadcast so that not everyone was able to watch via the web.

A large number of other local pastors and churches endorsed the event, and it was also attended by members of a motorcycle group, Bikers for Christ.

Why so much interest? The subject was about cults, how to identify them and how to explain and defend the deity of Christ. To check out local articles about this issue, click HERE and HERE.
