The Strawberry Effect

These bowls were tempting enough at Saturday's StreetFest,

 but fresh strawberries just made this one even more enticing.

Scarf Heaven

Scarves are such a fashion statement these days,

 but I bet you've never had one like these!

These nuno felted scarves, which were for sale at StreetFest last month,

 are made by placing wool on another material such as silk, cotton gauze or tulle

 and "beating the ever livin' stew out of the wool," according to artist/designer

 A.C. Reeves. Reeves says it's a "crazy process," and she also likes to work "scraps

" of "a little something special" into the design. So, you might find pieces

 of vintage quilts, cocktail napkins or whatever happens

 to be "floating around" in the design.

Harmony Club on Tour

The Harmony Club is hosting tours this weekend during StreetFest! 

For just $5, you can tour the former Jewish social club that is now a private home.

 It's located on Water Avenue not far from the Edmund Pettus Bridge. In fact, there's

 a great view of the bridge from upstairs. The century-old building has been

 under renovation for the past decade and includes a grand ballroom.

I Could have Danced (or watched a movie) All Night

My camera's on the floor, its lens packing in the great expanse of the third-floor ballroom/movie theater of The Harmony Club. Under renovation for the past decade, the century-old building on Water Avenue once served as a Jewish social club but now is owned by architectural consultant David Hurlbut who calls it home. The building was on tour during StreetFest last week, so I'll share more photos of this historic treasure later!

All that Jazz

The Concordia College Jazz Band added even more flavor to the catfish lunch at  ArtsRevive's StreetFest last Friday. Playing a variety of tunes from Dixieland to Motown, lunch guests dined (and a few even danced) under the shed on the terrace that overlooks the Alabama River.
