The Red Hat Society LADIES from Choctaw County spent two days in Selma

 during the Historic Pilgrimage, and I do believe Selma enjoyed them

 as much as they appeared to enjoy Selma!

K is for Kenan's Mill Painting

Alabama Plein Air artists painted scenes at KENAN'S MILL 

during the Selma Historic Pilgrimage this past weekend,

 and here is a beauty by Jack Kidd. 

Many plein air paintings sold at the Selma Art Guild's

 Wet Paint Sale Saturday, but some are still available 

this Friday and Saturday from 12-4.

Kenan's Mill is an 1860's gristmill that stayed in business more than a century,

 producing stone-ground grits and cornmeal. The mill is open to the public

 during Selma's Historic Pilgrimage in March and for the Kenan's Mill Festival

 in early November.

 The Kenan's Mill park can be rented for special occasions.

 It includes the mill, mill house, covered stage, swinging bridge

 across Valley Creek, brick charcoal kiln and barn area with restrooms.

Painting the Town

Painting the town has become a tradition during the Selma Pilgrimage, and Robine Wright of Birmingham was one of 27 Alabama Plein Air Artists to participate this year. 

She chose to paint the First Presbyterian Church tower (below) for one of her works. In the background, you can see the First Baptist Church (Lauderdale Street) tower. 

This year was Robine's first visit here with the group, which hails from across the state. In addition to the plein air artists, Robine is a member of the Mountain Brook Art Association.

The paintings are available for purchase at a "Wet Paint" sale at the Selma Art Guild Gallery at the end of Pilgrimage.

Spring Arrives at the Art Guild

Saturday was the first day of spring, and it arrived in full bloom at the Selma Art Guild. The early spring blooms seem more prolific than usual, and perhaps we can thank all the rain for that!

After Pilgrimage tours closed at 5 p.m., the Art Guild remained open for a two-hour "Wet Paint" sale, freshly painted art of Selma sites by the Alabama Plein Air Artists. They painted the town "en plein air" all day Friday and Saturday, stationed at homes on tour and other historic sites.

Pilgrimage continues today with Ashford, Churchview and the Kenan House open as well as the Selma Art Guild, Arts Revive, Sturdivant Hall, Church Street United Methodist Church, Vaughan-Smitherman Museum, Old Depot Museum and Kenan's Mill.
