The Four Horses

The four horses of the fountain by the St. James Hotel
seem to be riding into and away from the sunset.

  1. Neat fountain, especially with the sunset in the background.

  2. Horses are such elegant creatures - they make great subjects for sculptures. I like the energy in this fountain sculpture - the sense of action and movement.

  4. Well, I certainly am happy that the horses are all black so that they don't represent the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse since the figures in the Book of Revelation symbolize the evils to come at the end of the world. In the allegory the figure representing conquest rides a white horse; war, a red horse; famine, a black horse; and plague, a pale horse.

  5. They're not really acting like a very good team are they! It's a beautiful fountain though.

  6. Thanks, Kate! I hope these four black horses don't symbolize four famines either!
