Turn Around, Don't Drown

This stream crossing on a Dallas County pasture road is usually dry. But, after heavy thunderstorms rolled through the area Sunday morning, almost three inches of rain sent water rushing through. The level had been much higher a few hours earlier, but the force of the moving water was too dangerous to try to drive through.

Good idea to turn around, they say the water doesnt have to be very high to move a car.

Yes. It wasn't that deep across the road, but the current was swift.

Very wise saying! We had 6 inches of rain here last Thursday and flash flood warnings all over town.

Ditto here in LaGrange, GA.
Lots of rain last night & many overflowing creeks & streams.
Be carefull : - )

By the way.... I have started checking your site very day to see the latest pictures from Selma/Dallas County (I love them). We just purchased a beautiful old home in Old Town and I can't wait to start the renovations.

Smart of you not to attempt to drive thru.

This is an excellent post! We lived in Arizona for many years and every winter the dry creek beds would flood during heavy rains and people would try to drive through them and end up drowned down river somewhere!

It can be amazing how quickly water can collect into rushing water!

Thanks, Jacob. The "Turn around, don't drown" quote is repeated over and over by meteorologists here when there are flash flood watches/warnings. When checking this pasture, you have to be sure and get out during heavy rain or else you might be stuck there for awhile. The stream/ditch fills in a hurry.

There's nothing much scarier than rushing water in an unexpected place. I have enjoyed catching up with some of your blog. That banner photo of the historic bridge is fantastic!

Thanks for stopping by Portland Oregon Daily Photo.
