This stream crossing on a Dallas County pasture road is usually dry. But, after heavy thunderstorms rolled through the area Sunday morning, almost three inches of rain sent water rushing through. The level had been much higher a few hours earlier, but the force of the moving water was too dangerous to try to drive through.
Good idea to turn around, they say the water doesnt have to be very high to move a car.

ReplyDeleteThis is an excellent post! We lived in Arizona for many years and every winter the dry creek beds would flood during heavy rains and people would try to drive through them and end up drowned down river somewhere!

ReplyDeleteThanks, Jacob. The "Turn around, don't drown" quote is repeated over and over by meteorologists here when there are flash flood watches/warnings. When checking this pasture, you have to be sure and get out during heavy rain or else you might be stuck there for awhile. The stream/ditch fills in a hurry.
