August Theme Day (Night)
It's August Theme Day at the City Daily Photo Blogs, and why not cool off here in the Deep South with SNOW!
Five months ago, this was the scene in my backyard before daybreak. I was able to capture the huge snowflakes by turning on the backyard floodlights.
There are plenty more pictures from the dark sides of Planet Earth.

Wow. Snow in Selma. That must have made the local news for sure. It also made a pretty picture.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting and commenting on my night picture on my Brookville blog. Always happy to see your name there and the Swallowtail butterfly icon.
I slept under a blanket last night. This has been the coldest July ever recorded here in Ohio where we live. And it was only 59 F here this morning. August is starting out to be more of the same. I fear a climate change is on the way and each year will disrupt the lives of more birds and butterflies to say nothing about the polar bears.
How lovely and just what we need to cool down here! Well done capturing those large snowflakes as they fall.
ReplyDeleteThis is very strange and surely perfect, if not timely, for this Theme Day. Good idea, nice image.
ReplyDeleteThanks from the refreshment!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, I love the thought of snow right now.
ReplyDeleteThat really cooled me off! A relief from the heat here in southern Italy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great memory for the summer.
ReplyDeleteNice to see some coolness in the Alabama summer! Great to show this shot today!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful choice for theme day! Your backyard looks so magical with the snow at night!
ReplyDeleteThat is excellent! Nice to be reminded of winter in the heat of summer :)
ReplyDeleteVery nice! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat is a perfect Theme Day picture! It looks magical.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment about my photo today of the total solar eclipse 10 days ago. I was interested to read of your experiences seeing a solar eclipse near home as a child. I saw a partial eclipse as a child also, but our heads in a box and saw the shape of the sun in the spot opposite a pin hole. Today's cameras and solar filters are a much better way to watch.
ReplyDeleteYour photo today was delightful. I bet it makes you feel cooler on a hot Alabama summer day.
Hi Dave,
ReplyDeleteActually, I wasn't a child when we saw the solar eclipse. I was a young adult. Thanks for commenting.
Abe, Selma is lucky to have any snow at all. This was THE SNOW of 2009, and it came on March 1. I appreciate your comments, especially enjoyed reading about those 59 degree nights!
ReplyDeleteI wish we really did have some snow right now. It has been so darn hot and humid. Great shot, Ramblin...
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm not ready for seeing snow yet....it is a great shot and the snow sticking to the branches, really neat shot.
ReplyDeleteSlinger - Twin Cities
Well captured.
ReplyDeleteI looked at that thumbnail and thought it couldn't possible be snow so there must be some other explanation.
Well, it was indeed snow and there was another explanation.
I thought for a minute I was hot on the trail of something but this really cooled me down! ;-)
I think that is the best thing I like about snow. The great photo ops. Your back yard was beautiful. So serene. MB
ReplyDeleteWow, snow! I love it. I haven't seen snow falling for ages and ages, probably Paris in the mid-eighties! That's your curse, when you live in hot countries! My wife is from Bombay, aka Mumbai, she never actually saw snow! And we did not have the time to go to the Pyrenees mountains last winter, barely 100 km away! Love your shot, it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThis is a spectacular photo. Love the images of the snowflakes plus the colour of the snapshot.
ReplyDeleteI was scared for a moment when I saw this. The weather has been so strange lately, I'd believe anything! Glad to see it was from the winter though. Excellent choice for the theme day.
ReplyDeleteJanet! That is beautiful! Absolutely beautiful! Ethereal.
