Union troops in Sunday's Battle of Selma Reenactment unfurl Old Glory prior to engagement. While the rifle shots, cannon blasts and burning of the businesses bring "shock and awe," I enjoy visiting the camps beforehand to get a sense of the anticipation. The reenactment debuted in 1987, and in a few more years, Selma will recognize the 150th anniversary of one of the last battles of the American Civil War.

Hope you have a chance to visit my weekend pictures of our "American Revolution" reenactment. I didn't realize another important battle occurred on the same weekend.
When Southerners watch such reenactments do old feelings against the Union reemerge? I ask because just this year the Province of Quebec canceled a reenactment of a battle the British won because so many Quebeckers resented being reminded of the loss.

EG Tour Guide, I haven't ever noticed any anti-Union animosity, other than perhaps in jest! Mostly, this battle and all the events surrounding it are about history and cultural education. Thanks for asking.
