These little lavender blooms are kudzu blossoms. They resemble wysteria and smell like grapes, and some folks gather them and make kudzu jelly. Other people curse the hardy kudzu vine that has overtaken many a forest in the South.

Then there is something beautiful about Kudzu after all. I have seen it, on our way to Florida, covering whole buildings and telephone poles under a solid blanket of green.

I didn't know people make jelly from them! How interesting!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to see if my kudzu is in bloom now!
ReplyDeleteHi Ginger, So glad to have you visit. I think most of the kudzu blossoms are falling now, but they look sort of like wysteria. Smell good too!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you photographed the blossoms! Very nice!
ReplyDeleteThanks for weeping for my willow!
Knoxville has a similar post today. I'd never heard of this before and then twice in one day!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I lived in Atlanta for four years, cursed the kudzu down there, and swear I NEVER saw blooms on those things!
ReplyDeleteI always love seeing kudzu--it means I am closer to home.
ReplyDeleteI really like this picture...just something about it.
Chris, kudzu blossoms are hard to see from the road. They are almost hidden in between the big leaves. I had never noticed them either until I went out with a lady to collect the blossoms for jelly.
ReplyDeleteI learn something new everyday! I had no idea that kudzu bloomed. OR that you could make jelly! Now I have to go look for some blooms.
ReplyDeleteGreat macro shot!
