Skywatch Friday - Clouds 'n Roses

It's Skywatch Friday! Check out lots of other overhead scenes at Wigger's World.

Cotton clouds 'n yellow roses were a treat for my camera to shoot last week. The roses are
Lady Banksias, and the Greek Revival architecture is the back view of the antebellum Henderson House. The clouds are cumulus.

  1. What a beautiful picture with all those yellow roses!
The fire tower is in Baldwin County on HWY 59. If you ever go to the gulf you might go right by it.
    Thanks for your visit.

  2. Love those roses under that puffy clouds skyline!

BTW, I wonder if you ever saw the movie called Selma, Lord Selma? It is a favorite of mine.

  4. Wonderful photo--I love the roses especially because I've seen some just like them at Miss Eudora Welty's house in Jackson, Mississippi, so I knew even before I scrolled down to read your text just exactly what they are. Nice job!

  6. great catch! In the sky, there is no distinction of east and west, the people create distinctions out of their own minds and then beleive them to be true…. mine’s up too hope you can drop by

  9. Love the flowers going up the trellis and found quite amusing how you used words ... "Clouds 'n Roses" seems better than "Guns 'n Roses" ...

  10. I thought that little trip through Dixie might be just the ticket for some real Rebels and a few curious Yankees. I wrote an acrostic poem about my home state of Mississippi and I thought you might enjoy it since you know what Kudzu is.

    MISSISSIPPI

    Mighty river, wide, winding,
    Indians found you long ago.
    Southward moving,
    Sultry, steamy,
    Into lives, into dreams.
    Smell of honeysuckle blooming,
    Soft pine breezes, southern drawls.
    Ivy, Kudzu, trees entwining,
    Pastoral vistas,
    Pleasant people,
I will ever hear your call.

    Have a blessed week.

  14. Thanks for your visits!

Dot, I will have to look for that tower the next time we head to the beach. We drive down from Bay Minette on 59, although sometimes we use the toll bypass.

Paulie, I have seen that movie. It's based on the memories of a couple of little girls during the Civil Rights era. Like most movies, though, it doesn't necessarily follow the book or actual events. Thanks for stopping by!

Lynette, I am not surprised to hear that Lady Banksia roses grow at Eudora Welty's house! This rose grows all over Selma. I also have a young bush in my backyard.

Hi there, Texican! I like your poem! You're a regular cowboy poet.
BTW, check out my June 5, 2007, post about The Kudzu Strangler! It's pure poetry!

  21. Hi! Beautiful post!
Sorry for this short visit, but this weekend I’m going to take a musical break, and next week I’ll make a very short trip, crossing South Atlantic. I’ll try to catch up with your posts as soon as possible. Meanwhile, leave you with some chocolate champagne truffles at Blogtrotter.
Have a lovely weekend and an excellent week!

  23. What a gorggeous photo. I know what you mean that that is hard to take: white and yellows are very very difficult for me. You did a great job and I'd love to have all those flowers about.
