Summer Oasis

The municipal park between City Hall and the library is a cool place
to be in summer. This is the first year that I've noticed these
shade-loving begonias planted around the trees.

Now go ahead, take a seat over there on the bench near the Brooke Cannon.
But wait, why isn't the fountain on?
I'll have to check on that!

The Spring House

The Spring House has to be one of the prettiest storage buildings ever,
but the structure in Old Live Oak Cemetery was once used for concerts,
especially around Memorial Day. Also known as The Pigeon House,
I'm told that the gables (now closed off) housed pigeons.

The Valley Creek Bridge Project

It's a no go for pedestrians and traffic at the Valley Creek Bridge
on West Dallas Avenue. They have been fenced and blocked out!

Crews are tearing out the old bridge to replace it with a new one,
and traffic along the busy thoroughfare to downtown has been rerouted
for most of the next year.

Follow this blog for the progress and a picture of the new bridge next summer!

Road to the Marina

The road to the city marina is especially busy this time of year.

Drive all the way to the end of the road, and have lunch or supper at The Sand Bar.
Stop at the Farmer's Market on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday and buy fresh fruits
and vegetables that are locally grown. On your left, try the walking trail,
and over to your right are Bloch Park, a baseball stadium; and Memorial Stadium
for football and track. A children's playground and picnic area
are near the farmer's market.

andTeja's is one of the newest. I love her eye for merchandise
AND great prices! The personalized pocket tees really caught MY eye!

Morning Water

Keeping container plants watered is an everyday, sometimes twice-a-day task
in Selma in the summer. But, it's a delight to see greenery and colorful flowers
outside our retail stores, and look what I spotted, a yellow watering can
 for Monday Mellow Yellows!

Curbside at Carter Drug

When there is no space for drive-up service downtown,
curbside service is a great alternative!

Anticipation

So what is behind Door No. 13???

Children at a recent Selma Art Camp anticipate their next art project,
making a 3-D sculpture from odds and ends
with renowned folk artist Charlie Lucas.
