Loving These Blues

Many yards and curbs turn blue in March

 with the appearance of these dainty blue flowers. 

I hate to watch them fade, but when they do,

 then the dogwoods and azaleas are peaking,

 and oh what a glorious sight!

The Groundhog is Wrong

It's Groundhog Day, and Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks

 of winter this morning!

But wait! My daffodils are blooming.

So despite a cold wind and predicted deep freeze tonight in Selma,

 it must be Spring!

We've had enough cold weather this spring for my bearded iris

 to bloom for the first time in years!

Daffodil Debut

The annual daffodil debut has arrived!

Late January may seem early for spring flowers, but daffodils and snowdrops 

are usually the first to shoot up from the brown ground.

 Now, if the weather will just stay warm enough to keep them around!

After last night's storm that brought thunder, wind, heavy rain and power outages, we awoke to cooler temps,

blue skies and still more blossoms (although this photo was taken downtown last week).

Profusion

A profusion of white azaleas.

Fall Mums, Spring Azaleas

What is going on? Chrysanthemums and azaleas are blooming at the same time!

Mums are fall flowers, and azaleas bloom in the spring, but these azaleas decided to bloom twice this year. I wonder if all the recent rain contributed to their second showing.

Selma's Azalea Trail

Mobile is known for its Azalea Trail through the residential districts, but some of Selma's streets have trails of their own, and certainly this yard on Church Street qualifies!

I love the mix of light and dark pinks with white. These giant azalea shrubs form a trail around the formal rose garden.

Raindrops on Irises

March showers bring March flowers such as this raindrop-laden yellow iris. Selma has been saturated the past couple of days with up to nine (9) inches of rain, so say the weather reports. My backyard has soaked in 6.3 inches, and more is expected through today. Watch out! Rivers and creeks are rising!

Snowdrops

Dainty snowdrops! The clumps in my backyard were transferred from the flower gardens of my mother in law years ago. My grandmother had these too, and they are always among the first flowers of spring.

First Flower of Spring

Can the feline prognosticator be wrong? In my February 2 post, she predicted six more weeks of winter. Yet, here is proof that Spring is here! It's a daffodil, our first spring flower of the year...the ONLY flower in my yard so far...but there will be more... SOON. Just two weeks ago, we had snow.
