The permanent residents at Grist State Park love a handout...of food, that is. They were hoping for a few scraps from us, but we had nothing. We were just there to enjoy a view of the lake.

This young mourning dove can't decide whether to stay on the ground by the porch steps or try to fly. His mama was perched on a nearby telephone wire encouraging him to spread his wings.

Holley's sells fish and aquariums and has a nice selection of birds, hamsters and guinea pigs too.

Seeing Red! (Camera Critters)

Until a few days ago, I had never seen a bug like this!

It flies, it buzzes, it digs in the bark, and it's very, very big! It's probably a beetle, but I avoided the critter as if it was a mad, mad hornet. If you know this bug, please let me know!

From Alabama's Gulf of Mexico, I bring you a heron learning to fish!

Well, due to the angle, he looks like he's fishing with a pole that is really just planted in the sand. In reality, this bird was hoping to catch the fisherman's fish.

This big ole bullfrog was the "Catch of the Day" for one of our cats. He played dead for a long time, then came around shortly after the cat gave up trying to get him to jump.

The black Labrador Retriever mix was among the high quality "items" auctioned at last weekend's PAWS Ball and Auction benefit for the Central Alabama Animal Shelter.

These bluebirds gathered at the birdbath one cold morning last week to find fresh water added to the ice. It seems they are trying to decide whether to take an icy bath or just go for a slide! Christmas Cat (Camera Critters)

Our 12-year-old rescue kitty has always craved companionship...so much so that he spent Christmas morning hugging his Daddy's leg and serving as a ribbon receptacle as gifts were opened. While he isn't smiling for the camera, I can assure you that he's a very contented cat!
