Honoring Our Laborers

There will be no mail today, and many U.S. workers have a day of rest in honor of Labor Day. Originally, the day was set aside in the 1890s as a reconciliation with the Labor Movement. Now, it is also seen as an end-of-summer holiday. I can remember when the Labor Day weekend truly was the end of summer for school children. We didn't start back to school until the day after Labor Day. How I wish that had been true for my children!

I tell you what, I am so glad that I was a kid when I still had a summer to enjoy. Kids in our local area have been in school a month already.

Nice photo and a nice tribute to those who labor on our behalf...it's getting harder and harder for them to make a living wage these days...

So true, Jacob!

bfarr, Same here! I feel so sorry for them. They have never felt a slight chill in the air on the first day of school! That bit of a chill actually helped transition my psyche into the back-to-school routine.
