To the Widows and Orphans

This impressive stained-glass window at First Baptist Church is dedicated in memory of the lady who founded the Alabama Baptist Widows and Orphans Home.

The organization is now known as the Alabama Baptist Children's Homes and Family Ministries.

Well, gorgeous is the correct word, even if it's been overused.

I'm sort of surprised to find this kind of stained glass in a Baptist church, though.

What a beautiful stained-glass window. I bet it is even more gorgeous when the sun shines through. MB

Jacob, you are right. These stained-glass windows are unusual for a Baptist church, which tend to be much plainer. Some of the windows were saved from the previous building when the congregation decided to build this one in 1900. Two windows were designed by Clara Weaver Parrish, a Selma artist who worked for Tiffany Company in New York.
