Bridge to Freedom
One of our fellow City Daily Photo Bloggers is missing in Tehran, Iran. "A" last posted a blog on June 17. So, members of the worldwide CDPB community are hosting a special "Blog Day" today to help spread the images and stories from Iran.
The Selma, Ala., contribution is a photograph of the Edmund Pettus Bridge across the Alabama River. In 1965, the bridge became an icon for voting rights in the USA. While some of the issues in Iran are vastly different, the recent protesters carried signs that asked, "Where is my vote?"

Update (6-29-2009), the CDPB community received word that the Tehran blogger, "A" has been released from detainment and is at home now.
I think it is an ideal image now knowing the significance of the bridge. All of us together making a difference.
ReplyDeleteExcellent contribution. Thank you.
ReplyDeletePerfect choice for Selma.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy that so many of us are showing concern not only for our bloggers but for human rights internationally. Your blog is a wonderful use of your local symbol.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, a heartfelt use of a very potent local symbol. I hope that our missing blogger returns to us soon.
ReplyDeleteOur group is a community. The world is a community. The world is watching.
I echo Julie's words. (Indeed, I've been following her across the blogosphere.) The world is watching.
ReplyDeleteNicely done...I almost marched across that bridge...
ReplyDeleteI'm glad for your support. I'd like to make you aware of this video. Jump to 00:27:10 if you don't like to watch the whole video. I think this is what most western countries deny but it is all connected.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to highlight the need for voting freedom worldwide by posting a painting of the symbol of voting freedom in the South!
