What's Behind Door No. 2?

Not long ago, I asked what was behind Door No. 1.

Today, I ask, "What's behind Door No. 2?"

It's in the same building, same location...but the room behind this door was used for an entirely different purpose than that of the first door.
(Note: A careful observation of this door gives the hint.)

  3. I think its a cat hole. You know cats stay ready outside to catch the mouse and he leaves.

  4. I wonder about that little hole down at the bottom. Looks like a pet door of sorts.

  6. Hey ya'll. I didn't even notice that "tail," er, stick!

You're on the right track about the hole in the door. Why in the world is it there?

  7. It look like a mouse hole but maybe it's for drainage of some kind. Was it an ice storage area and the melted water ran out the little "Mouse house" door?

  8. I don't know what's behind it -- but I LOVE the little hole! So cute.

  9. It looks like a place where cats would like to go. I am guessing the pantry or larder? The cats were probably allowed in to chase the mice.

  10. Is there a litter box behind that door? ;-)

  11. I agree w/ Jim - a cat! If not, then I'm going to guess an over sized mouse or RAT!

  12. Well, its either a cat or a large mouse!

  13. Is that big enough for a chicken to go thru? It wasn't a place for the chickens to go in and lay eggs was it?

  14. Okay, y'all. Some of you got it right about the hole in the door. It IS meant for a cat or cats, and Halcyon got the reason right...to catch mice!

It's not a larder but is a type of pantry. What did they store in that pantry that mice would want?

  15. Hi Andrew and all. Yes, this place was used for storage, and the room behind this particular door with the cat entry stored grain. This was all back when most cats were mousers instead of pets!

  16. Cheese!
    Wait, did they store cheese?
