Robert Gordon not only cooks lunch for friends and neighbors once a month or so; he gives them the "Red Carpet Treatment." The proprietor of Gordon's Antiques on Mabry Street threw a front-porch get-together last Friday, and I was fortunate to be included!
Guests arrived between noon and 2 p.m. to a grilled hamburger buffet. Of course, being neighborly, they helped out and brought along side dishes and condiments such as baked beans, potato salad, shrimp, chips, tomatoes and cantaloupe.
It was a congregation of folks from varying walks of life: doctors, lawyers, retail business owners, stay-at-home moms, babies, museum directors, retirees, community volunteers and newcomers who just moved here from Phoenix, Arizona.
A good time was had by all!

That sounds like such a nice afternoon. Great photo of the gathering.
Sounds fun! It has been raining constantly here. And it doesn't look like it's going to let up today.
That sounds like fun...and sounds like small town life. I will have to look up Selma and see the population.
Thank you for your comment on my site about the photo of a blue motmot that I posted today. Your son took a great photo of a hummingbird that you posted yesterday. Your post today was charming, and captures the spirit of neighborliness of your town.
You tell Robert Gordan that I want an invite for the next burger buffet! Oh my goodness, that sounds like so much fun. I will make the trip down for that one.
PS Are you all drowning like we are??? Pouring rain all day and reallly most of the weekend. Guess it's good for the grass.
Hi Virginia, just you come on down! I may have connections that will get you in line for a burger! :) But the notice only goes out a few days in advance, so be ready, and bring a side dish!
Great shot of what looks like a great party. The rugs don't look too bad, either. Lucky you!
