A Painted Lady butterfly lights upon orange and yellow lantana. Despite living only a couple of weeks, these speckled lepidoptera are probably the most widespread butterfly in the world.

Aren't they pretty butterflies? The lantana is a perfect colour for this photograph too. Schoolkids here often raise Painted Ladies in their classrooms for release.

I was trying to take that exact picture yesterday! The dang butterfly would not stay still. I got the flower. :-) Maybe I will post that another day. You can see the flower in the background on my post today.
