No Parking on Bridge (July Theme Day)

Today is Theme Day for the City Daily Photo Blogs, and city photos bloggers from around the world are posting "NO" signs.
I looked and looked for something unique and finally settled for a picture I took last year...hence the reason some of the letters are cut off. I wasn't thinking "Theme Day" when I took it.

But I must ask: Who would try to park their vehicle on a bridge, especially one that has no emergency lane? I don't know, but this "No Parking on Bridge" sign should discourage that thought. Perhaps, it's purpose is to keep someone from stopping their car and throwing a fishing line across the rail and into the Alabama River below!

Traffic is usually pretty brisk across the bridge anyway, despite the 20 mph sign!

Hey, don't stop at this "NO" sign! There are others just waiting for you at these thumbnail images below!

I love that bridge, but who would want to stop on it? There is no room. Since its near the 4th, I guess it would be a great place to watch if there were fireworks going off in town.

Here the sign would probably say NO STOPPING and possibly there would be double-yellow lines down the edge which mean no parking.

I think that there are people stupid enough to stop on bridges, get out, and look over the side.. . .I've seen it happen in places. There are just idiots out there, and the sign is probably meant to discourage that, no?

"No signs" were posted on the Tobin Bridge in Boston and wire netting put up to enclose part of the bridge because too many people plunged to their death below and too many were getting rid of evidence from crimes above.

I think most people would not park on a bridge. But "NO" signs are always put up for the few fools who might think it's ok. And they will probably do it anyway, no matter what the sign says.

It amazes me that some signs are even required. I like your honesty about this not being specifically for theme day.

I think most jurisdictions have "no parking on bridge" signs as a deterrent against fishing and suicide. Great picture of a significant geographical point in American history!

Happy Theme Day!

I take it would be dangerous to park there...Happy Theme Day!

You know if there is a sign for it, someone has done it somewhere! Your theory about fishing might hold true. Or sightseers. Even us photographers might be tempted to at least slow to a near stop to get a nice shot out the car window if we thought we could get away with it. ;-) Selma is such a beautiful place (as you show us again and again) that I'm sure the view from the bridge is worth capturing.

Bridges are nice places to stop and view things like fireworks etc during special occasions. I guess that's when the sign is really needed?

Happy Theme Day!

As you say, who would want to park on that lovely bridge anyway. Nice choice for today.

Yes! It's dangerous. Thanks for comment on Nelson.
