Celebrate! (Skywatch Friday)

Fireworks light up the night sky at last year's Independence Day celebration in Valley Grande. Americans declared themselves independent of Great Britain on this day in 1776.

This year's festivities will be Saturday, July 5 at the city park. Come on up at 5 p.m. for a barbecue pork ribs cookoff, tug of war and fireworks spectacular. Admission is FREE.

Selma's celebration is tonight at Memorial Stadium and will feature speeches, choirs, soloists, sing-a-longs and fireworks.

Head on over to Wiggers World and see more fantastic Skywatch photos.

  3. I never was able to capture an explosion like you did last year with this so-called 'Fireworks' display. I miss the action. I get the camera pointed but press the shutter at the wrong time.

It is a nut kind of thing that happens but makes a big bang anyway and lots of businesses are thrilled that a whole country, like this one, has enough citizens in it who go nuts one time, at least, each year, and blow up their money.

The college education gone in a split second bang. LOL

I bet most didn't realize money is so loud and colorful.

I think this is the best Sky Watch Friday yet. The things I have seen are very encouraging and the photography is spot on.

I really admire your photography choices and your critical eye for composition, lighting and texture.

  4. It is well known that we Portuguese once sailed the seven seas searching for new lands, wealth and adventures.
We were brave in those days and gave the world new worlds!

Luckily I don’t have to sail the big oceans on a small ship to sea the wonders of our world …
No Sir, I just need to check with Mr. Tom, the finest host there is, for a trip around the world with SKY WATCH TOURS and with a click here, a click there I am quickly in the USA, England, Brazil, Italy, China, Australia, Finland … well, everywhere.

And on each stop I come to see a little marvel of our world under a great sky!
Hope you can come and see my piece of the sky at lenses & visions

  10. Great catch for SWF! This reminds me the quote... "God and Nature first made us what we are, and then out of our own created genius we make ourselves what we want to be. Follow always that great law. Let the sky and God be our limit and Eternity our measurement".... Happy weekend! Mine's up too hope you can drop by..

  11. I check your blog out daily, yet it never fails to surprise me when it opens up...I always think of it as Selma, Alabama and forget the rambling round part.

Anyway, great capture of fireworks display!
