Cruisin' Upriver in December

December isn't a usual month to see boats on the river, but the weather has been so balmy recently. Right now, our air conditioning is on...first time I ever remember needing it so close to Christmas. More near record temperatures are expected the next few days, with the thermometer close to 80 degrees F.

  1. It was 80 in Terrell, Texas today. By Monday the highs going to be 36, yuck. Nice looking river, and your trees still have color, very pretty.

  3. Great shot.

Thanks for visiting my NorthBayPhoto blog. It's certainly nowhere close to 80F here, but closer to 0F and as you can see from my photo today, it might be a little hard for boats.

  5. I don't remember what 80° F corresponds to in Celsius degrees. But I guess it is not a normal temperature for the season. Are people worried about the climate change in Alabama?

Here it is not cold either. I don't even need to turn the heat on to take my shower.

  6. Hi, and thanks for visiting Selma on a warm late autumn day! 80 degrees F is warm...short-sleeve weather, and if it's very humid, then an air conditioner might be needed.
While it isn't unusual to have a warm spell in December, 80 degrees is about the warmest that I can recall, and I have lived in Central Alabama all my life. Seventy degrees is more like it. This kind of heat, however, is usually followed by severe weather to adjust the "thermostat" where it's supposed to be!
However, we've had extreme cold during the last month of the year as well. I remember one Christmas back in the 1980s when the temp never got above 15 degrees F., and water pipes were bursting all over town. That kept the plumbers busy for a while!

  7. Thanks for visiting my Adelaide in Photos blog. It is the beginning of summer here and we have already had a 37C day (85F), but it is only 22C (67F) today. I love the colours in the photo and the boat puts the immensity of the river in perspective.

  8. Our cold front came in this morning. It was in the 40s pretty much all day, and off and on rain. The warm weather was good, but now maybe it will feel like Christmas.

  10. Your trees have leaves still! That's great. I like this photo. It shows the colourful trees and the bridge looks great over the water.
