Cotton Boll

Ever picked cotton? While the fiber is soft and fluffy, the hulls are rather scratchy. This year's county cotton crop will be short due to the drought, but this week...with its cool nights and clear, breezy days... is perfect cotton picking weather.

  1. Something funny... I took photos of cotton yesterday planning on posting it in a few days. Maybe I'll post it tomorrow... inspired by Selma.

    Nice shot by the way...

  3. It looks just like cotton candy! Or perhaps, it's just the other way around!! I enjoyed seeing it because of the history surrounding it!!

  5. I never picked cotton balls from the plant but I have touched raw cotton before.

I used to live in Louisiana and there were cotton fields close to where I live.

  7. I thought it was snow to begin with. I've never touched raw cotton. It's not a crop that grows very well in England!

But as I am an allergy sufferer, I sneeze just looking at it!

  9. Nice photo. I had never seen cotton (on the plant) in my life. Your photos make me think of Mark Twain's books, which I love.
