King Monument
A monument to American Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is a popular tourist site outside Brown Chapel AME Church. Brown Chapel was a headquarters for the voting rights movement in Selma during the 1960s, and King led numerous mass meetings there. King was assassinated in Memphis, TN. on April 4, 1968.
Looks as though some words have been deleted from that long passage on the monument.
ReplyDeleteIs it possible? Was it a typo?

Annula,
ReplyDeleteVery good observation and I don't know! I have looked through other official photos of the monument, and they just show the first paragraph up. I'm gonna find out what happened.
Thanks!
Hi Annulla,
ReplyDeleteI have finally tracked down the deletion on the monument. There was a mistake (though I haven't yet found out what the mistake was), and that section was taken out and replaced with a different type of stone.
there's still a serious typo - "i had a dream"
ReplyDeletethat should be fixed
Hi Mica, You are quite observant! In the speech, King stated, "I HAVE a dream..." '
ReplyDeleteBut, I am not sure if the designers of this monument intended to use "have" or "had."
Thanks for pointing that out.
