Making Lemonade

So who can resist freshly made lemonade or a twist of lemon in sweet tea
on a warm October day in Alabama?  This food venue had the perfect
thirst quencher at Riverfront Market Day!

Tagged!

No doubt about it! From Alabama to Illinois, this turkey
has been tagged for Thanksgiving decor!

Cedar House Crafts in Northport, Ala., uses old car tags,
barnwood and wire to create some really unique art. This was one
of their pieces at Riverfront Market Day.

Puttin' on the Dixieland

Water Avenue reverberates with music, music, music during the annual
Riverfront Market Day in October, and that includes Dixieland jazz
from The Upper Society of Lower Water Avenue. I pulled this photo
from last year's festival. Be sure and save Saturday, Oct. 12 for this year's music,
arts, crafts and food festival! It coincides with the Alabama Tale-Tellin' Festival
 that Friday and Saturday.

Car Tag Art

Talk about recycling...

An artistic vendor at last year's Riverfront Market Day cut up old car tags,
rearranged them like pieces of a puzzle, and voila!

The A Teams

The A Teams, Alabama and Auburn, play their annual college football rivalry today,
and I've seen quite a few mailboxes and doors decorated with the team colors.
These wreaths were available at Selma's Riverfront Market Day in October.

Molded by Hand

It's Rural Thursday, and there is nothing better than hand-thrown pottery
to add down-to-earth warmth (other than a wood stove or fireplace!)
to a home. I admit a weakness for vessels like these and treasure the churns
and pitchers handed down through our family, plus quite a few
 I've purchased myself!

These clay pitchers were crafted by Allen Ham,
the world-famous potter of the Alabama Black Belt!

Jams and Jellies

"J" is the Letter of the Week over at ABC Wednesday, and what could be a tastier "J"
than homemade jams and jellies! Take some pears or strawberries or blueberries,
and yummy, yummy, spread the sweetness on some toast or biscuits or muffins.

The jams and jellies (plus syrups and pickles)were made by Laughing Bee Confections
of Selma and arranged so beautifully at Riverfront Market Day.

The annual food, music and crafts event on Water Avenue
will be Saturday, Oct. 13 this year and will include a fun scavenger hunt!

Wisteria Mirrors

These mirrors made with wisteria vines drew a lot of attention at Riverfront Market Day. Bits of mirrored glass are used in the shape of flowers to give a really interesting look to these decorative wall plaques.

Thanks to guest photographer Jacque Johnson for the photo.

Strummin'

A guitar player added his own musical flavor to Riverfront Market Day  as he strummed a tune on Water Avenue  last weekend.
